About Idle Hands Arcade
Where this started
This site exists because of airport layovers. My kids and I have spent more long delays than I can count sitting at a gate with nothing to do — flights pushed back, connections missed, that particular kind of restless boredom that sets in when you've already walked every hallway of the terminal twice. A five-minute distraction made a real difference on those days, and I kept wishing there was something simple to pull up: no app to download, no account to make, just open a page and play.
Why I built it this way
Idle Hands Arcade is my answer to that. Four games — word scramble, sudoku, a sliding tile puzzle, and checkers — built to load fast and get out of your way. No sign-ups, no logins, nothing to set up. If you've got five minutes at a gate, in a waiting room, or on a break at work, that's really all this needs.
Who it's for
I built this with a wide range of people in mind: seniors looking for something low-effort and clutter-free, students who need a genuine break instead of another scrolling feed, teachers looking for something calm to point students to during a spare moment, and honestly, anyone who's just bored and has a few minutes to burn. The games stay simple on purpose — easy to pick up, nothing to relearn if you haven't played in a while.
What's here now, and what's next
Right now that's four games with a simple scoreboard that remembers your progress in your own browser, plus a growing set of guides and tips in the blog if you want to get better at any of them. I maintain this independently and add to it when I can — new games, better guides, and small improvements based on what people actually use.
